Voici un mec qui veut faire 330’000 m pendant cette saison. 13’000 m dans une journée, c’est pas facile à battre…
1 million in a season. - Monday, February 28, 2005
After doing 30,000 feet in a day a few years ago, ARC’TERYX athlete Greg Hill has undertaken the goal of doing 1 million in a season - under his own power.
« The main reason to aim for a million feet is that it is a tangible goal, lofty but feasible with some serious dedication. Since october 30 I have been doing my best at always maximizing everyday, often due to weather or group or other reason we can’t maximise all the time but I have been trying to average over 7000 a day, if I tour 143 days that would add up to 1 000 000. there are always smaller days so that means i have to be prepared to ski bigger days.
So far i have toured 630 000, with over twenty days of 10 000 + vertical. i am a little behind my goal but only by a few days which is amazing.
to try and get back on track I went out and toured for twenty one hours during the full moon. skiing through beautifull alpine bowls during a full moon is a breathtaking experience. Although the terrain i picked could be a bit more direct i was able to giver all day and at 9 pm on Feb 25 I reached my new vertical record. 40 000 ft up and 40 000 ft down.
I guess my real goal as an athlete is to take ski touring from a pastime and help turn it into a sport. not many sports can supply the kind of mental and physical challenge that touring does. It is also very rewarding, the more you can hike the more sweet powder you can ski. As a ski mountaineer the fitter I am the more I can accomplish in a day. last week I had several days of two or three peaks, all remote huge hikes but new peaks to add to my list. »
