Trekking And Hiking In Moroccan Mountain

A TREK THROUGH THE SPECTACULAR High Atlas Mountains is not just one of the most scenic hikes in the world it’s also an immersion into the culture of the Berber people, Morocco’s original inhabitants. Few roads penetrate this craggy mountain stronghold, where the agrarian way of life has little changed in a hundred years. As we trek, we see Berber women in brightly colored dresses tending fields amid picturesque mud-brick villages, and higher up, we meet nomadic shepherds in summer pastures. We often visit homes to share a cup of mint tea with these friendly, open, mountain people. The trek is strenuous, but scenic grandeur abounds, from towering limestone peaks to sheer red-rock canyons.
Imlil is the ideal base for trekking, hiking or camping in the Atlas mountains. If you are coming from Marrakech your first stop will be Asni. Asni is the end of the line for bus and taxis coming from Marrakesh. From here, you can take a pick-up or taxi. The 17 km trip from Asni to Imlil is startling in its natural beauty. As the road begins to climb, the beauty of the valley, river and small villages look more like paintings than reality. The air in Imlil is crisp and clear as the town stands at an altitude of 1740 meters. Although the town has no particular sights it has a relaxed and refreshing atmosphere. Paths and streams are plentiful in the area, if you need to stretch your legs after the trip.
Activities Guide:
Trekking: from half-hour walks to 3-10+ days treks can be arranged in Morocco’s High Atlas mountains by travel guides based in IMLIL.
For hiking Mt Toubkal - the highest peak in the country- start from Imlil.
To visit Berber villages IMLIL as a base.
Camel trekking: Can be arranged from marrakech.
Cuisine Guide:Traditional Morocco food is nourishing though a little dull, with couscous [semolina] the national dish, served with stews of lamb, chicken and vegetables…

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am looking to arrive in Marrakech on the 12/13th July.
After a day or in Marrakech I would like around 10 days trekking in the Atlas Mountains.
I am a fairly healthy smoker, 36-year-old male and have no real trekking experience but do have a fairly active lifestyle.
Is this a good time of year for trekking? I assume that the temperature will be milder in the mountains as I do like too much heat. If so can you advise me off suitable clothing to bring?

Please can you send me your itineries and prices?

Many thanks

Richard Scott

Trekking in Morocco some of the best in all of Africa. toudaoui have a wide selection of Morocco trekking holidays with departures every week of the year, and with grades ranging from easy to tough. All of the tours travel to remote, off the beaten track areas, and to traditional Berber villages populated by friendly local people living a life that’s changed little over hundreds of years. If you want to trek in Morocco during the summer, head for the High Atlas to climb either Toubkal (4163m) North Africa’s highest peak, or Jebel Mgoun (4068m) North Africa’s second, or both. In the winter let’s head further south to walk in the Anti-Atlas or Jebel Sahro ranges,or berbere villages . Every week of the year toudaoui schedules an easy grade, centre-based trekking trip from the quiet rural village of imlil. This is a popular option for those new to trekking or looking for a gentle one week holiday which combines the best of rural Morocco and the vibrant city of Marrakech.
