I’ll recomend you the book: « New Zealand Backcountry Skiing », James Broadbent NZAC You could buy it in amazon or www.clearwatertarn.co.nz (they took only 5 days in delivering me to Barcelona).
We have been there in July: Queenston and Wanaka areas (Sutton is also in the last outings), Mt Brewster, Sealy (in Aoraki area), Hutt and Porters pass areas, McRae in Nelson,… Conditions would be diferent in October but you could get an idea with the video of our trip:
