Looking for hiking friends - willing to teach me some techniques

Hello there!

I live in Geneva where I have arrived mainly for the mountains.
So far I have made many hikes - good ones but not very technical. Originally, I am a semi-marathoner, hence really really fit but not technical enough for what I would like to do in the mountains - for the time being at least (I can use the crampons and ice-axes, that’s all. I have climbed indoor only for one year and it was not really concluding I confess, hum).
I was believing that in Geneva I could easily find friends that would take me with them on more difficult hikes and teach me along the way but it does not seem to work that way in the end. I have then tried with the Alpine Clubs but everything is already full and booked!!

I am not a « fancy-to-be-alone » person and the process of socialization is really bizarre to me over here, I have major difficulties to find the group of friends going to the mountains regularly I was dreaming of - or maybe I am the problem, will think of that possibility
So basically my beg is: if you are organizing hikes and you miss someone to fill the car - or you miss a car! (I have one), I would be more than happy you give me a chance to join you!

In general, the people that I fit with - and conversely - are rather relaxed and easy-going. I am definitively looking for good mates, not a mountain bear looking for his female or a performance anxious pal :). Performance goes along with fun, yes yes I believe in that…
Now, I just cross my fingers that you will read my post…
So much hope to read you soon! (yes, I look desperate. I am, indeed ;))

Hi Marielle -

I am new to this area as well, moving from Grenoble to Haute-Savoie in November (temporarilly in Geneva now)
I would like to meet people I can hike with, maybe a little climbing but I am not technical.

My wife is not fit enough to do the hiking I like. I prefer strong walks, getting to summits, I like the challenge of map reading & route finding, & dealing with all kinds of weather.

If my level is same as you let me know.

I am English, with medium level spoken French & I need to improve so maybe we can speak French on our walks.

A bien tot

Teddy
