But that is my point! I cannot get enough of Ski Rando. Some great itineries, articles and forums. Some bad pictures but you cannot get everything. I can only understand a fraction that this site is offering because I don’t have a great grasp of written french/italian or german. And I cannot write up my own Sorties as I don’t know if anyone will understand… or want to.

I’m in Mt. Blanc/Beaufortin - Augilles Rouges, Zermatt/Saas Fee come March/April for the last 6-7 years. I need to be connected as I’m a Scot living in Edinburgh who can’t get to the Alps often enough.

Webmaster - is there enough english speaking members to warrant you translating Ski Rando into english? or do you just wish to keep it for yourself and not open up to other people who love the Alps or any high mountains - Scots, Canadians, Australians, Irish, Welsh… even Americans and the English.

feel free to participate to the forums, even if there is no english version of the site yet (but, as claude mentioned, it should come soon). You wouldn’t be the first one to use english. Anyway, a recent study on the frequent users of the c2c sites pointed out that most of them are scientists ;o) So they are supposed to understand english!
you can also share your ski tours of the coming season with the community by putting them in the database (topoguide). I would be delighted to read about itineries in Scotland, Rocky Moutains, Alaska, New Zealand…

To be honnest with you, I did not know that there was not yet an english version of the « topoguide ». As soon as available, don’t hesitate to enter them.
I am sure that you will be read by more people than you suppose.
Being just a french guy, I am unable to read any german nor italian, but I think I would understand most of your « sorties » in english :slight_smile:

On the other hand, I would have quite a bit of difficulties to write my-self my own « Sorties » in english, especially the « snow condition » part. There is a lot of debate around the meaning of the words in french to describe the quality of the snow, so if I had to do it in english, it would be quite a mess :wink:

Poudreuse = Powder snow
Trafollée = full of old tracks ?
Lourde = heavy snow ?
Mouilée = weet ?
Décaillée = melted in surface only ?
Transformée = ?
Dure = packed snow ?
Gelée, verglacée = icy snow ?

Anyone to give us a training ?

Mais Calum, j’étais à Edimbourg il y a une semaine et les Pentlands était blanc et le lendemain Cairngorm était très blanc (mais je sais, il a fondu deux jours plus tard)
