Hello Isabelle,
I assume your intention is to go to Italy in few days, as you mention conditions … and they change rapidly in the southern side of the Alps.
And what you want to do is ski-mountaneering (ski de randonnè).

I let other forumers add more info on different areas, but on my side I can suggest you the Dolomites. Conditions are good there and the location is beautiful, although they are a bit far away from France/Switzerland (Dolomite are located on the eastern side of northern Italy - count one full day from France). Look for Cortina to Brunico area on any map of Italy. Particularly I can recommend you the Fanes Alp, with beatifull daily trips on the sorrounding mountains (pls search on the internet for Fanes Hutte, access from S. Vigilio di Marebbe in 2 hours). Dolomites can be very steep, thus you can always find an easy trip, and good ski mountaneering skills are recommended
However Dolomite’s best season is March.
Alternatively, the Maritime Alps (look for Cuneo, on France-Italy border): they are good in winter - renewed for powder snow - but I’m afraid I don’t have sufficient detailed information regarding conditions there.

Hope this can help.

-Mad

PS) I have translated the title in a more proper Italian …

You can find good conditions (in this period) in Val Gerola, a little valley not so far from France, 100km from Milan on the route Milan- Sondrio, closer than Dolomites.
In Gerola village you’ll find some small and nice hotel not expensive and good food too.
In the village you can buy the guide-book « Itinerari di scialpinismo nel parco delle Orobie Valtellinesi » including a map and the descrptions of 30 skitour, unfortunately only in Italian language!

Good trip, Monk.

bon ski,
