Pizzo dell’Alpe Gelato (2613 m)
The mountain has a south and a north summit, and it has two names: Pizzo dell’Alpe Gelato on the regional map of Switzerland, Pizzo del Lago Gelato according to the Italian documents. However: The horn of the frozen Alp or the frozen lake (according to the map there their two) is exact a rassiger ski mountain on the state border. The normal route by Switzerland offers everything that ski routes in the Tessin so particularly make. The departure in Italy by 730 meters high CAN alone provides for threefold beating of the heart: at the sight, at the time of execution, in the memory. Who wants to drive on the steep gutter, first a route on the opposite valley side should make, in order to be able to judge conditions. The CAN alone is a lawinenrinne; particularly in the lower part must be counted on rough underground, particularly since the snow of the steep side panels herabruscht. A departure would be most beautiful in the winter, with completely safe powder snow…
As difficult: WS+ for normal way; three key places: close, partly suspended ski area to Alpe di Sfii; the steep gutter into the Gelato gap; the somewhat suspended burr for the summit (steigeisen sometimes necessarily). ZS+ for the CAN alone Gelato; on the average 33° steeply on 730 elevator meters with entry and short center section around the 40°; SW flank underneath the summit well 40°. Early start. Only with very stable snow conditions.
Like much: 1330 m, 5 hr. (without Gegenaufstieg).
Where through: Of Cimalmotto (1405 m) valley inward after Pianelli and on the moving way down there to the Rovana bridge (1285 m). On the moving way through more or less seals forest to a bildstock, where at the beginning of somewhat suspended traversing to the Alpe di Sfii (1666 m) begins. Of the Alp southwestward flat, then more steeply by a hollow on a shoulder and briefly down there to the Alp Piemantiu. Valley inward north the brook into a hollow. Something left-drawing back up into the Valle del Lago. From this Taelchen rather steeply (34° to 100 elevator meters) diagonally under the Pizzo Stanga up into the Ganna del Pizzo Gelato. By a steep Couloir (36° to 100 TC) into the gap (approx. 2550 m) between the n and the s-summit of the Pizzo dell’Alpe Gelato. Evading to a rock obstacle left, on the n-summit (2613 m) to foot over the s-burr.
CAN alone Gelato: Of the summit briefly over the s-burr back, then by SW flank down there, the very steep at the beginning. Right-holding the at the beginning of the CAN alone Gelato on approx… 2460 m; the entry becomes only in the last instant visible. By the Couloir down there on a flattening on approximately 1940 m. of right over a rib and briefly very steeply down there into the continuation of the CAN alone, which is limited high walls right of one hundred for meters. Of the exit of the Couloirs right-holding down there to the Rio Colobiasca. It cross and on the Pizzo del Forno Forno-Route back after Cimalmotto. And then as fast as possible in the next Ristorante, in order to knock against - salute!
