Qualcuno fra voi ha sciato questo enorme canalone che scende dal Lago Gelato / Pizzo dell’Alpe Gelato (zona frontaliera Ticino / V.Antigorio) fino al piano del Rio Colobiasca? Vale la pena? E più comodo l’accesso dal versante Svizzero o Italiano?

Pizzo dell’Alpe Gelato (2613 m)
Der Berg hat einen Süd- und einen Nordgipfel, und er hat zwei Namen: Pizzo dell’Alpe Gelato auf der Landeskarte der Schweiz, Pizzo del Lago Gelato laut den italienischen Unterlagen. Wie auch immer: Das Horn der gefrorenen Alp oder des gefrorenen Sees (laut der Karte sind es gar deren zwei) ist ein rassiger Skiberg genau auf der Staatsgrenze. Die Normalroute durch die Schweiz bietet alles, was Skitouren im Tessin so besonders machen. Die Abfahrt in Italien durch das 730 Meter hohe Canalone sorgt für dreimaliges Herzklopfen: beim Anblick, bei der Durchführung, in der Erinnerung. Wer die Steilrinne befahren will, sollte zuerst eine Tour auf der gegenüberliegenden Talseite machen, um die Verhältnisse beurteilen zu können. Das Canalone ist nämlich eine Lawinenrinne; vor allem im unteren Teil muss mit rauhem Untergrund gerechnet werden, zumal der Schnee von den steilen Seitenwänden herabruscht. Am schönsten wäre eine Abfahrt im Winter, bei ganz sicherem Pulverschnee…
Wie schwierig: WS+ für Normalweg; drei Schlüsselstellen: enges, teilweise ausgesetztes Skigelände bis Alpe di Sfii; die steile Rinne in die Gelato-Lücke; der etwas ausgesetzte Grat zum Gipfel (Steigeisen manchmal nötig). ZS+ für das Canalone Gelato; durchschnittlich 33° steil auf 730 Höhenmeter mit Einfahrt und kurzem Mittelteil um die 40°; SW-Flanke unterhalb des Gipfels gut 40°. Früh starten. Nur bei sehr stabilen Schneeverhältnissen.
Wie viel: 1330 m, 5 Std. (ohne Gegenaufstieg).
Wo durch: Von Cimalmotto (1405 m) taleinwärts nach Pianelli und auf dem Wanderweg hinab zur Rovana-Brücke (1285 m). Auf dem Wanderweg durch mehr oder weniger dichten Wald zu einem Bildstock, wo die anfangs etwas ausgesetzte Querung zur Alpe di Sfii (1666 m) beginnt. Von der Alp südwestwärts flach, dann steiler durch eine Mulde auf eine Schulter und kurz hinab zur Alp Piemantiu. Taleinwärts nördlich des Bachs in eine Mulde. Etwas linksausholend hinauf in die Valle del Lago. Aus diesem Tälchen ziemlich steil (34° auf 100 Höhenmeter) schräg unter dem Pizzo Stanga hinauf in die Ganna del Pizzo Gelato. Durch ein steiles Couloir (36° auf 100 Hm) in die Lücke (ca. 2550 m) zwischen dem N- und dem S-Gipfel des Pizzo dell‘Alpe Gelato. Zu Fuss über den S-Grat, einem Felshindernis links ausweichend, auf den N-Gipfel (2613 m).
Canalone Gelato: Vom Gipfel kurz über den S-Grat zurück, dann durch die zu Beginn sehr steile SW-Flanke hinab. Rechtshaltend zum Beginn des Canalone Gelato auf ca. 2460 m; die Einfahrt wird erst im letzten Augenblick sichtbar. Durch das Couloir hinab auf eine Verflachung auf etwa 1940 m. Rechts über eine Rippe und kurz sehr steil hinab in die Fortsetzung des Canalone, das rechts von hundert Meter hohen Wänden begrenzt wird. Vom Ausgang des Couloirs rechtshaltend hinab zum Rio Colobiasca. Ihn überqueren und auf der Pizzo del Forno-Route zurück nach Cimalmotto. Und dann so schnell wie möglich ins nächste Ristorante, um anzustossen – salute!

Campo (1281 m): Ristorante Porta, Tel. 091 754 12 54 - die Routen werden dann halt 20 Minuten länger. Cerentino: Ristorante Centrale, Tel. 091 754 12 62, Osteria Rovana Tel. 091 754 12 65. Bosco Gurin: Pension Edelweiss, Tel. 091 754 19 00; Hotel Walser und Jugendherberge, je Tel. 091 759 02 02 (gehören zur Grossalp SA); Capanna Grossalp, Tel. 091 754 16 80 (eingeschränkter Betrieb im Frühling). Cevio: Albergo Basodino, Tel.(091 754 11 01. Wer sich die Strecke Cimalmotto - Landesgrenze ersparen will, zeltet im Frühling an den Ufer des Rio Colobiasca - das Schlaflied gibts umsonst.

Il monte ha due cime, una nord e una sud, e due nomi: Pizzo dell’Alpe Gelato sulla Cartina svizzera e Pizzo del lago Gelato nelle documentazione italiana. In ogni caso:, la cima è un itinerario super a cavallo del confine tra I e S.
La via normale dalla Svizzera offre tutto ciò di particolare che un itinerario può offrire in Ticino. La discesa in Italia lungo il canalone (lungo 730m) procura un triplice batticuore:gli scorci, la discesa e il ricordo.
Chi desiderasse percorrere il ripido cataletto dovrebbe prima fare un giro nella parte opposta della valle per poter valutare le condizioni.
Il canalone è di fatto un canale di scarico di slavine; soprattutto nella parte più bassa si deve fare i conti con un fondo molto mosso a causa della neve scaricata dai ripidi pendii laterali. L’ottimale sarebbe scendere il canale in inverno con vene polverosa e ovviamente perfettamente sicura.
Difficoltà: PD+ per la via normale. Ci sono tre passaggi chiave: tratti stretti e in alcuni punti molto esposti fino all’Alpe Sfii; il canaletto ripido che porta alla bocchetta Gelato-; la cresta a tratti abbastanza esposta che porta in cima (ramponi a volte necessari),
AD+: per il Canalone Gelato; inclinazione media di 33° lungo i 730m con imbocco e breve tratto mediano intorno ai 40°;
il fianco SW sotto la cima un buon 40°. Occorre partire prestom solo con neve assolutamente sicura.
Tempo: 5 ore per 1330 m di dislivello senz considerare la risalita.
Da dove: Da Cimalmotto (1405 m) lungo la valle sino a Pianelli e poi in discesa lungo un sentiero fino al Ponte Rovana (1285m). . Lungo il sentiero per un bosco con alternanza di tratti radi e fitti fino a un tronco decorato , dove comincia la traversata- a volte esposta- sino all’Alpe Sfii (1666m). Dall’Alpe in direzione S e in piano, in seguito lungo una conca maggiormente inclinata e sino ad una spalla e in breve fino all’Alpe Piemantiu. Lungo la valle a nord del torrente in una conca. Ora leggermente tenendo la sinistra in su fino alla Valle del Lago. Da questa valletta abbastanza ripida (36° per 100m) e di traverso sotto il Pizzo Stanga sino alla Ganna del Pizzo gelato. Atrraverso un ripido canale (36° per 100m) sino alla bocchetta (2550m) posta tra la cima N e S del Pizzo dell’Alpe Gelato. A piedi lungo la cresta S, superando sulla sinistra un salto roccioso e da qui alla cima N (2613m)
Canalone Gelato: dalla cima per un breve tratto ritornare lungo la cresta S, poi scendere nel fianco SW, all’inizio molto ripido. Tenersi a destra per raggiungere il canalone (2460m); l’imbocco del canalone è visibile solo all’ultimo momento.
Scendere lungo il canalone sino ad un avallamento a circa 1940m. Tenendo la destra lungo una costola e poi ancora per poco lungo la ripida prosecuzione del canalone, a destra contornato da pareti alte alcune centinaia di metri.
Dalla fine del canalone tenere la destra e scendere al Rio Colobiasca. Attraversarlo e lungo l’itinerario del Pizzo del Forno ritornare a Cimalmotto.
E poi tutti primo ristorante a brindare nel più breve tempo possibile.

Sciato circa 12 anni or sono, confermo che sarebbe meglio in inverno (non con troppa neve) altrimenti è facile trovarlo rovinato dalle colate; oppure aspettare ancora un mesetto, la neve rimane a lungo, è nord pieno incassato, e pian piano si livella e diventa più uniforme.
Sicuramente è meglio salire da Cimalmotto.
p.s.- Per Daniel - avresti info sulle condizioni della ovest dell’Eiger, sono anni che vorrei darci un’occhiata, potrebbe essere l’anno buono ?
